LifeBridge Health 2012 Holiday Parties
LifeBridge Health got its holly jolly on in fine style this holiday season. Employees came together to enjoy each other’s company (and some amazing eats) during a series of holiday parties. Sinai Hospital staffers noshed on eggrolls, roast beef (or, as the Grinch might say “roast beast”), turkey, meatballs and — of course — cookies. Levindale added salmon to the mix as its shindig; not to be outdone, Northwest Hospital brought out the stuffing and the … Read entire article »

LifeBridge Health Patients Say Thank You to Employees
Merci. תודה. Muchas gracias. Salamat. Thank you. No matter which words are used, an expression of appreciation brightens a health care worker’s day. Whether we’re providing life-saving medicine, hacking through the thorny thicket of finances or simply offering a shoulder to lean on, we make sure our patients feel cared for in all ways. We do this because it is our passion; we don’t expect displays of gratitude. Still, we’re all only human, and acknowledgment of our efforts can’t help but make … Read entire article »

Levindale and Courtland Gardens Honor Employees at 2012 Service Awards
How different are things in 2012 than they were 40 years ago? You be the judge. In 1972, a gallon of gas was 36 cents, a dozen eggs cost 52 cents, and the Miami Dolphins won the Super Bowl after a perfect season. That was also the year that both Mary Eccles in Laundry & Linen and Merdina Watson in Environmental Services joined the Levindale family. They, and about 100 of their colleagues who have worked … Read entire article »

Courtland Gardens Employees Get Pretty in Pink for Breast Cancer
Courtland Gardens employees were pretty in pink on a recent day in October. As part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, about 30 employees not only decided to think pink, but to dress in pink. Each wore a pink shirt to show their support for breast cancer survivors and for those who lost their battles with the disease. Courtland Gardens workers also held a pink bake sale, a pink lemonade sale and a raffle. The three … Read entire article »

Arthritis and Aging
Contrary to popular belief, there is joy that comes with aging. There’s seeing your children bloom into responsible self-sustaining adults. There’s having the time to do what you want during the day. There are decades-long friendships that bring immense satisfaction. But does suffering from arthritis have to be part of aging? Is arthritis inevitable, as you grow older? “There are some who think it is unavoidable,” says Susan Levy, M.D. “And certainly, we see an increase in arthritis as people age “ But there’s a catch. “Some people may not have any symptoms of arthritis although they may still show indications of arthritis,” says Dr. Levy, who is the medical director at Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital and Courtland Gardens Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. In other words, you could have arthritis but have no, … Read entire article »

Courtland Gardens Resident Becomes U.S. Citizen
Some of our holiday wish lists were filled with leather gloves or fleece-lined slippers or maybe one of those single-serve coffee makers, but for Rachel Friedman, CTRS, CDP, the greatest gift was one she gave herself – the gift of United States citizenship. Chanukah came early for this Courtland Gardens employee and her family: Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at 3 p.m., to be exact. The Healing Power of Art Therapy at LifeBridge Health
Chris Burch, an art facilitator over at Levindale, moves between the patients who are painting a pastoral mural, complete with majestic purple mountains. She pauses beside one woman, and says, “You know what I like about this? It’s the way you paint, it’s your style.” The woman’s face flushes with a sweet, almost girlish pride when the lady next to her chimes in with more praise. By the end of the hour, the people gathered around … Read entire article »

Courtland Garden & Levindale Residents Get Rosh Hashanah Messages Thanks to Auxiliary Members
Jewish people around the world observed the Jewish New Year called Rosh Hashanah last week.
