Rubin Institute Courses Draw Surgeons from across the Globe

Over the last two weekends in August, Baltimore became the epicenter for some of the world’s best experts in their field ... And we aren’t just talking about race car drivers competing in the Grand Prix of Baltimore.

As the streets of Baltimore were filled with high-performance Indy cars, the hallways and conference rooms of the nearby Four Seasons Hotel were filled with some of the world’s most skilled hip, knee and limb lengthening surgeons.

They were all in town for two Rubin Institute events: the Seventh Annual Hip and Knee Course on August 23 and 24 and the 23rd Annual Baltimore Limb Deformity Course from August 30 to September 2.

The course schedule kicked off on August 23 with the Hip and Knee Course. Surgeons came together to participate in lectures, discussions and workshops on advancements in hip and knee surgery. The course was led by the doctors from the Center for Joint Preservation and Replacement.

The following Labor Day weekend marked the always eagerly anticipated Baltimore Limb Deformity Course hosted by hosted by the International Center for Limb Lengthening.

Surgeons and other specialists from 35 countries gathered to learn about advanced limb lengthening and deformity correction concepts and participate in hands-on labs that at times resembled a mechanic’s garage.

Additional sessions were offered that helped attendees learn surgical techniques in an anatomy lab and about the Ponseti Method to treat clubfoot.

As always, both courses were also an opportunity for the experts to renew old acquaintances and establish valuable new contacts.

The Rubin Institute is already looking forward to what has become a late summer tradition.

  • Meet this amazing girl! Grace Callwood was diagnosed with #lymphoma at age 7, and now she's making a difference for other children fighting #cancer. She recently donated a $5,000 prize she received for creating the "We Cancerve Fund" to the Herman & Walter Samuelson Children's Hospital at Sinai - helping other kids and families facing serious illness. We are so appreciative to Grace, she is truly an #inspiration!

  • #DYK every 2-3 years women should receive a physical examination to screen for diseases; assess risk for future problems; discuss lifestyle habits; and keep vaccinations up to date. Be proactive about your health by staying on top of necessary screenings and health care visits. #WednesdayWisdom

  • Thank you, to the big-hearted "Get in the Game" campaign chairs at #NorthwestHospital. These members, Ericka Gray-Wylie, David Forbes, and Charles Williamson (not pictured), work hard to develop fun activities to not only increase participation in the employee giving campaign and raise funds, but to boost employee morale. #TeamLifeBridge

  • The "Get in the Game" festivities continue as part of our #LifeBridgeHealth annual employee giving campaign. At #NorthwestHospital, staff members competed in a #Zumba Dance Off, while #CarrollHospital associates tested their #trivia knowledge, and the folks at #Levindale… well they just cooled off and enjoyed some delicious #icecream. Last year, our employees raised $202,000 to help local Maryland charities. Go #TeamLifeBridge!
