Rubin Institute Courses Draw Surgeons from across the Globe

Over the last two weekends in August, Baltimore became the epicenter for some of the world’s best experts in their field ... And we aren’t just talking about race car drivers competing in the Grand Prix of Baltimore.

As the streets of Baltimore were filled with high-performance Indy cars, the hallways and conference rooms of the nearby Four Seasons Hotel were filled with some of the world’s most skilled hip, knee and limb lengthening surgeons.

They were all in town for two Rubin Institute events: the Seventh Annual Hip and Knee Course on August 23 and 24 and the 23rd Annual Baltimore Limb Deformity Course from August 30 to September 2.

The course schedule kicked off on August 23 with the Hip and Knee Course. Surgeons came together to participate in lectures, discussions and workshops on advancements in hip and knee surgery. The course was led by the doctors from the Center for Joint Preservation and Replacement.

The following Labor Day weekend marked the always eagerly anticipated Baltimore Limb Deformity Course hosted by hosted by the International Center for Limb Lengthening.

Surgeons and other specialists from 35 countries gathered to learn about advanced limb lengthening and deformity correction concepts and participate in hands-on labs that at times resembled a mechanic’s garage.

Additional sessions were offered that helped attendees learn surgical techniques in an anatomy lab and about the Ponseti Method to treat clubfoot.

As always, both courses were also an opportunity for the experts to renew old acquaintances and establish valuable new contacts.

The Rubin Institute is already looking forward to what has become a late summer tradition.

  • #SinaiHospital's housekeeping team knows the importance of bringing a little fun into the workplace. To play off their creative skills, employees participated in a fun towel folding contest. Not only could team members showcase their knowledge, talents, and skills, but they could also bring smiles to the patients' faces. #TeamLifeBridge

  • After an exhausting workday, exercising is probably the last thing you want to do. But getting your sweat on will actually energize you. According to a study published in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, fatigue along with mood and depression improved after a single 30-minute, moderate intensity exercise session. #WednesdayWisdom

  • “Teamwork is our motto and that is how we function each day,” says Nurse Manager Michele Stiller of the Northwest Center for Wound Care and Hyperbarics. This center, which sees about 500 patients every month, helps patients with chronic non-healing wounds, such as pressure ulcers and complicated surgical wounds. #TeamLifeBridge
