Celebrate National Respiratory Care Week October 21-27
From October 21-27 LifeBridge Health will be recognizing National Respiratory Care Week. During this week we celebrate the contributions of respiratory professionals who help patients with breathing and other cardiopulmonary disorders.
The professionals that work in respiratory care are called respiratory therapists. These therapists evaluate and treat all types of patients, from young children with asthma to older victims of heart attack and stroke.
Some of the jobs that respiratory therapists perform include:
- Maintaining equipment such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, and aerosol generators
- Assisting in emergencies such as heart failure, heart attack, stroke, drowning, and shock
- Assisting patients with asthma, emphysema and other lung conditions
- Teaching patients about breathing exercises
- Maintaining natural and artificial airways in patients
Respiratory therapists also provide vital assistance to people delivering care inside helicopters and ambulances as they transport patients to a hospital or health care facility.
Ann M. Ludwig, BS,RRT-NPS, Education/PI Coordinator, Respiratory Care Services at LifeBridge Health, had this to share about Respiratory Care Week:
“The mission of Respiratory Care Services at Sinai Hospital is to provide the highest quality care, excellent customer service and support for our patients and their families, physicians, allied health professionals and each other. Our goal is to foster a team environment focused on providing the best care to our patients ‘One Breath at a Time.’ Join us in celebrating the accomplishments of the Sinai Respiratory Department during RT Week.”
We want to thank all of the respiratory care professionals here at LifeBridge Health for their continued dedication and hard work.
