Celebrate Pediatric Nurses Week October 7-13

This week we celebrate the specialty practice of pediatric nursing. Pediatric nurses are dedicated to promoting the health of children from birth to adolescence. They can be found in hospitals, clinics and private practices.

In addition to providing long-term treatment for young patients, pediatric nurses also help families develop and maintain healthy living lifestyle choices. Some of their specific duties include:

  • Administering and prescribing medication
  • Conducting physicals
  • Giving immunizations
  • Diagnosing illnesses
  • Placing intravenous lines on patients

“Pediatric nurses create an environment in which infants and children benefit from the vigilant care and the coordinated efforts of a team of highly skilled pediatric healthcare professionals,” says Pat Moloney-Harmon, RN, MS, CCNS, FAAN, Advanced Practice Nurse, Children’s Services, Sinai Hospital of Baltimore.

“In addition, pediatric nurses care for the families of their patients. It is a privilege to care for these most vulnerable patients and their families. One of our greatest joys is to see a child come back to visit after a hospital stay and know that we had a part in the recovery.”

There are a variety of pediatric nurses in the LifeBridge Health family who bring smiles to the faces of children every day. This week we want to give them a special “Thank You” for their dedication and hard work.
