Komen Grant to Fund Breast Screening for Uninsured

LifeBridge Health has been awarded a grant of nearly $85,000 from the Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure for its Freedom to Screen program for 2012-2013. Freedom to Screen (F2S) is one of only two new programs that were awarded the Komen grant this year in Maryland.

In collaboration with the Alvin & Lois Lapidus Cancer Institute and the Herman & Walter Samuelson Breast Care Center, Freedom to Screen is a breast cancer education and screening program for the underserved and uninsured. F2S was developed this past year with support from braVo funds and an American Cancer Society health disparities grant.

The program provides breast health outreach and education to various communities, as well as financial assistance for screening mammograms and follow-up diagnostic services for uninsured and underinsured women who meet certain income guidelines.

You can read more about this award on the Baltimore Sun.

The grantees were honored during a breakfast ceremony hosted by the Komen Maryland Affiliate on April 3, 2012.

From L to R: Brooke Mullineaux, program coordinator, Freedom to Screen; Lisa Hamm, outreach coordinator, Alvin & Lois Lapidus Cancer Institute; Michael Stein, director, LifeBridge Health cancer services; Amy Heinrich, VP board governance, Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

For more information about the Freedom to Screen program call 410-701-4705.

  • Meet the "Get in the Game" Committee Chairs at #SinaiHospital! This team was in charge of planning a variety of activities for our annual giving campaign, including 'jeans day at work' and a Basket of Champions raffle to help increase employee participation and morale. We are so appreciative of their support, and could not have had a successful event without their help! #TeamLifeBridge

  • Meet this amazing girl! Grace Callwood was diagnosed with #lymphoma at age 7, and now she's making a difference for other children fighting #cancer. She recently donated a $5,000 prize she received for creating the "We Cancerve Fund" to the Herman & Walter Samuelson Children's Hospital at Sinai - helping other kids and families facing serious illness. We are so appreciative to Grace, she is truly an #inspiration!

  • #DYK every 2-3 years women should receive a physical examination to screen for diseases; assess risk for future problems; discuss lifestyle habits; and keep vaccinations up to date. Be proactive about your health by staying on top of necessary screenings and health care visits. #WednesdayWisdom

  • ‪#‎TBT Did you know that there’s a mini-museum inside ‪#‎SinaiHospital? Located behind the hospital’s cafeteria, the “Sinai Pride” #exhibit takes you back in time displaying everything from medical instruments to historic photos. Do you have a Sinai story? We’d love to hear it!

  • The "Get in the Game" festivities continue as part of our #LifeBridgeHealth annual employee giving campaign. At #NorthwestHospital, staff members competed in a #Zumba Dance Off, while #CarrollHospital associates tested their #trivia knowledge, and the folks at #Levindale… well they just cooled off and enjoyed some delicious #icecream. Last year, our employees raised $202,000 to help local Maryland charities. Go #TeamLifeBridge!
