Sinai’s ER-7 Pediatric Center: When Your Child Needs Emergency Care
It is every parent’s nightmare. Your child is sick, in need of medical attention and the doctor’s office is closed. Your adrenaline is pumping and time is quickly ticking by. Two words come to mind: emergency room.
If you live in the Baltimore area, you’re lucky. There is an ER you can count on to provide the very best in high-quality medical care for your child: Sinai ER-7’s Pediatric Center at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. It’s the only dedicated pediatric emergency care center in northwest Baltimore.
“Our pediatric emergency room physicians are board certified in general pediatrics with significant experience in acute care and emergency pediatrics,” says Maria Soriano, M.D., who specializes in pediatric emergency medicine. “Most of us have been practicing pediatric emergency medicine for more than 10 years. In addition, four physicians on staff are board certified in pediatric emergency medicine, in addition to general pediatrics.”
It means, in a time of crisis, your child will be provided with the care he or she needs from a highly qualified doctor. “The entire pediatric ER-7 staff is eminently qualified to handle whatever situation comes through the door,” says Joseph M. Wiley, M.D., chief of the Children’s Hospital at Sinai. “The staff is specially trained in the care of pediatric patients and our registered nurses are certified by the Emergency Nurses Association.”
Sinai ER-7 has gone through a quiet revolution that benefits patients and families. Wait times have diminished considerably through reengineering patient flow to facilitate quick and efficient treatment.
Coming to an emergency room means that there is no time to worry about things like parking, which is free for patients at Sinai ER-7. And you can be confident that there is a full spectrum of pediatric services if admission to the hospital is required. Pediatric specialists in orthopedics, ophthalmology, critical care, oncology and a dozen more subspecialties are available immediately for bedside or telephone consultation. Pediatric ER-7 patients are supported by staff at the Samuelson Children’s Hospital, which offers a full spectrum of pediatric-based specialties and services.
No drab environment awaits your child in the ER. A cheerful, child-friendly space was created to make an emergency room experience as positive as possible. There is a separate pediatric treatment area, and there are play areas specifically designed for children.
Other amenities include the Fast Track Center, which provides timely care to patients with minor ailments such as sprains, sore throats, small cuts and similar conditions. The fast track advantage allows patients with minor illnesses and injuries to receive the same immediate attention and care as patients with more critical conditions. Also:
- Patient advocates are available to arrange for any nonmedical needs of patients and families.
- On-campus pagers allow visitors to remain connected to ER-7 staff while outside of the immediate emergency areas.
- If there is an open bed, the patient is taken directly to the room instead of remaining in the waiting room.
No one wants to be in a hospital emergency room with a sick child, but if you have to be, Sinai ER-7’s Pediatric Center should be your first choice.
